Months of planning allowed the University to have 13 weeks of on-campus instruction and to provide our students with the residential liberal arts experience that drives our mission.

Despite the atypical semester caused by the pandemic, we have continued to improve and advance our institution. We received a wide variety of recognitions from national publications and agencies. Our national-niche programs are flourishing, including the Batten Honors College, focus on the Greer Environmental Sciences Center, and the Robert Nusbaum Center. We added new programs: a joint Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Sentara College of Health Sciences and a Bachelor of Musical Arts. We completed a variety of construction projects, including Coastal 61 at Oxford Village, Boyd Dining Center, and TowneBank Arena. We continued with our plans for Susan T. Beverly Hall, DeFord Manor, and Brock Commons - all to be completed in 2021. We held on to traditions like Founders Day, Homecoming and Family Weekend, and Wesleyan Wednesday by offering these events in a virtual format.

Our successes could not have been possible without the outstanding leadership of our Emergency Response Team, the cooperation of our students, and the creativity and care shown by our faculty and staff. Our partners at Sodexo, Aramark and Sentara were instrumental in our ability to provide a safe learning environment. I cannot thank the Marlin family enough for making the most of our fall semester together.
Over the years I have enjoyed writing regular columns and contributing to articles.

President to President: Fostering A Culture of Innovation
The third chapter of this year’s  series, "" by Eastern Connecticut State University President Elsa M. Núñez, Ed.D., describes the benefits of collaborating with a corporate partner to support student success.

I am proud to serve as an Executive Editor of this thought leadership series with Dr. Marylouise Fennell. The 2020-21 series is titled "," in which leaders on the cutting edge of higher education offer their perspectives on innovation as it applies to myriad aspects of the college experience. While Sodexo is the corporate sponsor of this national project, I receive no compensation to serve as the Executive Editor. In lieu of compensation, at my request, Sodexo makes a contribution to the VWU student scholarship fund.
Â鶹´«Ã½rtb officials continue to monitor the outbreak of COVID-19, following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

The University's Emergency Response Team has created VWU CovidSafe to provide information about the current number of confirmed cases impacting our campus. It will be updated weekly on Wednesdays to keep the community apprised of our current situation.
