NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA
MARCH 2017

Seventy-one prospective freshmen took part in our inaugural Batten Honors College competition in February. I had the privilege during my latest State of the College Address to introduce the Batten Honors College, which is named for Virginia Wesleyan College Trustee Emerita Jane P. Batten H'06 and her late husband, Frank Batten, Sr. The competition consisted of interviews, campus tours, panel discussions, and special receptions, including a wonderful social at Slover Library in Norfolk (pictured). We were honored to have Mrs. Batten in attendance (far left), pictured here with Dr. David Black, Special Counsel to the President, Joanne Renn, Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Dr. Mort Gamble, Senior Vice President, and Dr. Scott Miller, President of Virginia Wesleyan College.
